Stag weekends in Manchester are like being ants at a picnic - it's a glory day. You'll be guaranteed great nights out, top-notch entertainment, and possibly the best sport in the UK - just avoid disputes between United and City supporters if you value all your limbs! Manchester's sporting the original edgy cool, rough around the edges and self-consciously un-glamorous vibe that keeps people coming back for more. It isn't that there's nothing upmarket to enjoy, because there's plenty, it's just that Manchester isn't that interested in shoving it in your face. Famous for its musical heritage, diverse population, and football, locals are proud of their city and so they should be - it's like the UK's leather jacket. So get your buddies together for a mental stag weekend of hard partying - and bring the Panadol.

Stag Do in Manchester

You can't get away with as much as you once could in Manchester - and that's probably a good thing! The independent spirit remains, but the city has become more cosmopolitan in recent years, with extensive development of central areas like New Deansgate Lock. There are still places you'll want to avoid, but with a little planning, it's the bad-girl charm of the place that's going to hit you - the lingering scent of sin and reality mixed with a mischievous grin and a dirty joke.

You'd be pretty hard-pressed to have a bad night out here - the people are too game for a party to let that happen! And it's not all grunge, either - for the history nerds, the oldest railway station in the world is here and the first computer in the world was built here… so Manchester is basically the cradle of civilization. Think about that one for a while! You'll probably get some rain and clouds while you're there, and you wouldn't really be getting the authentic Manchester experience otherwise. The city centre is walk-able, but you'll probably want to use the tram at some stage. Also a good bet is to see if the free Metroshuttle goes where you're headed and hop on.

Explore the city's many faces - for example, the bohemian Northern Quarter that's full of up-to-the-minute indie music, the Town Hall area that houses both traditional and underground pubs where the locals hangout, Canal Street which has one of the most famous collections of gay and lesbian bars in the world and is always hopping (and open to all orientations). Whether you want to experience an epic curry crawl along the Curry Mile (360 curry places in a row) or the famous bar crawl that is the Didsbury Dozen, you're bound to find new tastes on your Manchester stag weekend.

Manchester takes good care of its stags, providing all the activities you'd expect and hope for and some you might not expect. You can get your paintballs by the hundreds, set up intense go-kart races amongst the lads, trip all over each other in bubble football, and so forth, but you can also go hover-crafting or mountain boarding, go on a zombie survival mission, or try indoor skydiving. Or you can always sit back and take in some horse or greyhound racing, try your luck at the tables on a casino night, or keep your money and take a cocktail-making class instead to impress the girls back home.

Whatever you decide to do, we all know the main event won't get started until dark, so some wine tasting or tequila tasting can get you ready to go out and experience the vibrant club scene. Start the evening off with guest list entry to one of the great lap dancing clubs in town, and force the stag to sit still for a painfully sexy performance (we don't think it'll be too hard to convince him - he's still a bachelor, after all). Then it's out to party like a local - just try not to drink like one if you have anywhere to be the next day.
