Riga doesn't get the same headlines as Prague or Budapest, but groups that go come back raving about it. Latvia's capital has everything you want from an Eastern European stag — a medieval Old Town UNESCO listed and genuinely stunning, nightlife that runs until the early hours, activities that range from beer spas to Olympic bobsled tracks, and prices that make the whole thing feel almost too affordable. It's one of those destinations where your budget goes significantly further than you expect, and the quality doesn't suffer for it.
Riga punches well above its weight for stag activities. The beer spa is the one everyone talks about — you sit in a tub of warm beer, drink from a tap mounted above the tub, and then sweat it all out in a sauna. It sounds ridiculous and it absolutely is, which is exactly why groups love it. Beyond the novelty stuff, the shooting ranges in Riga are genuinely impressive — AK-47s, Desert Eagles, sniper rifles — and the whole experience runs for a couple of hours with targets, instruction, and ammunition included. Prices are a fraction of what you'd pay back home.
Go-karting is a stag staple that Riga does well, with both indoor and outdoor tracks available year-round. In winter, you can swap the karts for snowmobiles or add bobsledding to the itinerary — there's a proper Olympic-standard bobsled track outside the city that's unlike anything else in Europe for a stag activity. In summer, the Latvian countryside opens up for canoeing, white-water rafting, and jet-packing on the water — good options if your group wants a half-day outdoors before heading back into the city for the night.
The Central Market is worth an hour of anyone's time, even mid-stag. Europe's largest covered market, it sells everything from amber jewellery to smoked pig's ears — genuinely fascinating in a way that sounds unlikely until you're actually there. A quick guided tour is an easy way to fill a morning before the main event of the day kicks off.
For something more mischievous, the classic Riga stag arrest goes down a treat every time. A fake police car, handcuffs, a blindfold, and a suitably panicked groom-to-be. We've run it hundreds of times and it never gets old.
Riga's Old Town is the centre of gravity for the first night out — compact, walkable, and packed with bars ranging from Irish pubs to Latvian craft beer spots to late-night cocktail lounges. Prices are genuinely shocking to UK groups used to city-centre pricing back home: a pint of local lager costs around €2–3, and cocktails rarely top €8. You don't need a strategy — just walk the Old Town and you'll stumble across something good every few minutes.
Before you head out, pick up a bottle of Black Balsam from any corner shop. Latvia's famous herbal liqueur has been made to the same secret recipe since 1752 — it's dark, bitter, and seriously strong. Mix it with blackcurrant juice if you want something more approachable, or take it neat if you want to do it properly. Either way, it's the Riga experience in a bottle.
The clubs stay open late and entry prices are low. For groups wanting something more full-on, the strip club scene in Riga is well-established and professional — prices are clearly advertised upfront and the drinks aren't watered down, which is a common complaint elsewhere in Eastern Europe. A guided bar crawl is the best way to hit the right spots without wasting time on tourist traps — we sort these as part of the package and the quality difference is noticeable.
One rule to know before you go: don't drink in the street or in public squares. Latvia takes this seriously and fines are issued to tourists without much sympathy. Stick to licensed venues and you'll have no bother.
The Old Town is the best base for most stag groups. You're walking distance from the best bars and clubs, the streets are atmospheric — cobblestones, medieval buildings, the occasional rooftop terrace — and the hotels in this area are well-priced without being rough around the edges. The Rixwell Old Riga Palace and Rixwell Elefant are solid four-star options that regularly host stag groups and know what's expected.
If your group wants spa access built into the accommodation, the Wellton hotels are worth the upgrade — they have proper thermal and sauna facilities which make an excellent morning-after option. Riga hotel prices are significantly cheaper than Western European equivalents for the same quality level, so it's worth bumping the accommodation budget slightly if you're used to compromising elsewhere just to keep costs down. Here, a four-star hotel doesn't cost much more than a three-star would elsewhere.
Riga International Airport (RIX) has direct flights from London Gatwick, London Stansted, and Manchester, with Ryanair and airBaltic both serving the route regularly. Fares typically run £60–120 return per person if you book a couple of months ahead — cheap even by European stag standards. Flight time is around 2.5–3 hours, so a Friday lunchtime departure has you checked in and on the beer by early evening.
The airport is about 10km from the Old Town and the transfer is straightforward — the No. 22 bus takes around 30 minutes and costs next to nothing, or a taxi runs around €15–20. If you want to start the weekend the moment you land, we can organise a party bus transfer with champagne and entertainment from the terminal — groups that do this consistently rate it as one of the highlights of the trip.
Riga is one of the best-value stag destinations in Europe. A solid Banter package — two nights in a central four-star hotel, two activities, airport transfers, and a bar crawl — typically starts from £249pp. Day-to-day spending is low: budget around £30–50 per person per day for food and drinks if you're being sensible, or £60–80 if you're going all in. A decent restaurant dinner with drinks runs around €15–25 per head. Club entry rarely tops €10 and often comes with a drink included.
The overall cost of a long weekend in Riga consistently comes in cheaper than a comparable trip to Prague or Budapest, and the quality of activities and nightlife matches both. For groups where budget is a real factor, Riga is the strongest case in Eastern Europe right now.
Day one: arrive and get settled. Party bus from the airport with champagne and music — start as you mean to go on. Check in, get changed, then an early evening shooting session to get the group fired up. Dinner at one of the Old Town steak restaurants (excellent quality, very reasonable prices), then a guided bar crawl through the best spots. Finish the night wherever the guide recommends — it'll be the right call.
Day two: activities and the big night. Morning beer spa — the perfect hair-of-the-dog hangover cure and one of those experiences nobody forgets. Afternoon go-karting or quad biking depending on the weather and the group's energy levels. Back to the hotel to get ready, then dinner before a proper night out. This is the night to go harder — VIP entry to the best clubs, or book a table if the budget allows.
Day three: easy does it. Late checkout if you can manage it, a relaxed brunch somewhere in the Old Town, and a wander through the Central Market before heading to the airport. Nobody's rushing, nobody's broken, and everyone goes home with a story.
Both are genuinely excellent. Prague is more famous, has a wider range of restaurants, and the tourist infrastructure is more developed — if someone in the group has never done a European stag before, Prague feels slightly more familiar. Riga has better value, a more authentic feel (it gets far fewer stag groups than Prague), and the Old Town is arguably more striking. For groups that want Eastern European quality without the crowds, or who've already done Prague and want something different, Riga is the stronger choice.
The honest version: if you've already done Prague, do Riga next. If you haven't done either, both are brilliant — get in touch and we'll help you decide based on your group's budget and priorities.

Riga works year-round. Summer (June-August) gives you long days, warm weather, and the city at its most vibrant. Winter trips have a completely different feel: snow-covered cobblestones, cosy bars, and the option to add bobsledding or snowmobiles to the itinerary. Either works brilliantly for a stag weekend.
