For a ridiculously affordable hen weekend that won't skimp on beauty, culture, history, and fun, Bratislava is an ideal hen do destination. Every second corner seems to have a palace on it and there for a beautiful place to visit on your trip, but it's not all gorgeous architecture from centuries past: you can still find urban grit here if your tastes run that way on your hen weekend (you can even party in a former military bunker at Subclub for a crazy night out and a great story to tell). There is so much to see here, and even more to do, the hen weekend activities in Bratislava will have you spoilt for choice. Nestled right between Hungary and Austria, you can actually hop over to either country from Bratislava in next to no time, but if you'd rather stay in the city for your hen weekend, you can just get a lovely view of both from the ramparts of Bratislava Castle.
Slovakia's capital city, Bratislava offers a mixture of cultural attractions: the white-walled castle that dominates the city and the gothic Old Town will take you back in time, while the funky UFO-shaped Novy Most Bridge restaurant will bring you right back into quirky modernity on your hen weekend. The city is right at the base of the Carpathian mountains, which are easily accessible for day-hiking in the summer or skiing in the winter, depending on when you decide to celebrate your hen weekend. While you're there for your hen party, you have to try bryndzove halusky, the national dish of Slovakia; it's a delicious kind of cheesy, bacon-y gnocchi; and drink the local lager and sweet wine!
The Daily Mail reported Bratislava as the best value hen do location in the whole of Europe. So this is a great location to enjoy your hen do. You can get to Bratislava for under £30 from London Stansted flying with EasyJet. And hotels and apartments in the city will set you back no more than that too. The flight only takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes, so you can get started partying in next to no time on your hen weekend in Bratslavia. If you think you'll want a bus ride here or there, buy a pack of bus tickets at the airport so you don't have to worry about it later; they definitely speak English at the airport, but they don't necessarily speak it everywhere else. Most everything you'll want to see while you are here for your hen weekend, is in Old Town and it's an easy, pedestrian-friendly area. There's also a jaunty little tourist train that can take you to see all the most beautiful sights in the city centre if you don't feel like walking.
Apart from wandering through the medieval towers, gothic cathedrals, and baroque palaces in the Old Town, you can check out the sumptuous Slovak National Theatre for world-class opera and ballet, take a river cruise all the way to Vienna with drinks and treats for all, or take it easy with a sauna day with the girls for your hen weekend here. There are microbreweries dotted all over the city, most of them with their own beer cellar where you can sample the wares. Look out for Zamocky Pivovar, Mestiansky Pivovar and the Starosloviensky Pivovar. In fact, if it's got Pivovar in the name you'll find beer inside! For something a bit upmarket on your hen do, the Little Carpathian Wine Route is now firmly entrenched as a hen favourite.
If you want to get a bit more active on your Bratislava hen do, you can head out for a competitive scavenger hunt through the city, there are so many hen activities in Bratislava to choose from, go go-karting or quad-bike racing, or even go sky diving! Spice it up with target shooting, or take a pole-dancing class to work up some sexy moves for your epic hen party weekend.
When the evening draws in, it's time to eat, drink, and be merry. And what's merrier than a delicious dinner, followed by a private strip show from a gorgeous Slovakian hunk on your hen weekend? Then it's time for a seriously fun bar crawl complete with absinthe-tasting, followed by a night full of dancing in the hottest clubs like Trafo, Le Club, and Masquerade; all along one street so you don't have to stumble far to get from one to the next!
